Virtual Attendance Information

Company, as well as personal, budgets are getting tighter every year.  Employers are finding it harder to send employees to educational offerings leaving it up to the individual to fund themselves.  The following scholarships are available to help with expenses associated with attending the annual meeting.

Scholarships

Sol Haberman Scholarship
The Sol Haberman Scholarship Award originated in 1970 to honor Sol Haberman for his pioneer work in blood group immunology.  The scholarship originated through the generosity of James T. Wheeler, M.D., who continued to fund the award for several years. Each year the South Central Association of Blood Banks offers the Sol Haberman Scholarship award based on the submission of an original paper by an SBB student from an accredited school within the South Central region. Papers submitted may include scientific, technical, educational, or case study papers in the areas of transfusion therapy, immunohematology, immunogenetics, transplantation and anthropology, or administrative papers in the areas of cost-control, regulations, quality control and instrumentation.

The Sol Haberman Award consists of a $300.00 scholarship check (funded by the general fund), a certificate, a full registration to the annual conference, and a complimentary banquet ticket if the winner attends the Association’s Annual Meeting.
Economic Scholarship
The Foundation Economic Hardship Scholarship is awarded to members in good standing on an as needed basis. Individual members or those employed by an institutional member may request funds to be applied toward costs associated with attendance at the SCABB Annual Meeting. Selection is based on individual explanation of need, professional and educational objectives for attending the meeting, and a statement of support for attendance by the individual’s employer. The scholarship is funded by the South Central Association of Blood Banks Foundation.

Raymond St Peter Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the family of Ray St. Peter to honor Ray’s love of blood banking and his dedication, not only to supporting the South Central Association of Blood Banks, but his dedication to serving donors and patients.
The Raymond St. Peter scholarship is provided to include but not be limited to a full AM registration fee, three nights’ hotel accommodations, travel reimbursement, and meals. The total value of the scholarship will be awarded based on the needs of the applicant and may contain all or some of the components above.

Award applicants are restricted to those persons currently employed in the field blood banking or transfusion medicine. Applicant must be an individual member of the Association, for a period of not less than 12 months, or if less, show record of involvement in the Association since joining. Membership must be in good standing.

Each recipient of the RSP Scholarship is to write either a blog or article for the Association summarizing one or more of the education sessions attended at the Annual Meeting within 30 days of the conclusion of the Annual Meeting.
